Renting an apartment

You would like to rent an apartment in Israel.

Before you commit yourself, you should have compared the proposed rent to the levels of rent in the neighborhood. You may also ask your friend or real estate professionals.

Before signing the contract, it is important to check out the total cost of the rent. Besides the rent amount, you will have to pay the municipal taxes (arnona), the residents committee fees and the current expenses (water, electricity, telephone..). You may ask the landlord or neighbors. Having a look at the bills may be useful.

If the condition of the apartment does not allow for normal use, repairs should be made before the beginning of the rental period.

In any case, you should draft an inventory detailing precise condition of the apartment in order to avoid unnecessary dispute during or at the end of the rental period.

It is also recommended to consult with a lawyer regarding the drafting of the rental contract,.

New immigrants are eligible for rental subsidies and to a discount in municipal taxes (limited in time).
